Changing graphics

Perhaps the most important aspect of modifying a web site template to meet your needs is changing the YourCompany or YourSite graphic at the top of the page to reflect the name of your own website or business. You will need a graphics program such as Photoshop, Fireworks, Paint Shop Pro, Image Composer, etc. to accomplish this.

Included with each web template is a blank version of the company/site name graphic. It can be found in the images folder. This graphic will be the same size as the one displayed in the template. Some templates require the use of the same-sized graphic, but some can use larger or smaller graphics.

Open the blank graphic in a graphics program. It may appear as a solid color or it may have a pattern. Note whether it is a .GIF or a .JPG file.
Using the font tool, type your site or company's name in the font you wish to display. Adjust the size, color, and kerning. You will most likely want it to be anti-aliased so the edges of the letters will appear smooth and not jagged.
Apply any effects you wish, such as a drop shadow, glow, bevel, etc.
You can also add logos or other graphics. Keep in mind that they will look best if designed on a background similar in color to your new graphic, then made transparent before adding them.
When the newly designed graphic is to your liking, save the file as an editable file, .psd, .png, etc. This copy is "just in case." You may want to tweak or make changes after seeing it in the template.

Save and export the new graphic in an appropriate format for the web. Photos and gradients should be saved as .JPGs. Most others should be saved as .GIFs.

Tip: When you save the new graphic, give it the same file name as the graphic already in the web site template. When placed in the images file, it will automatically be inserted into the template.
